You Can Still Brush Your Teeth With Braces

Whether you are wearing braces or not, brushing is a good beginning to your daily routine. But here are a few things to consider while undergoing an orthodontic treatment: you still need to always use toothpaste when brushing your teeth. Simply start out by brushing around the gumline, then tilt your toothbrush to get your bristles up under your brackets and wires. Then it would be in your best interest to focus on one or two teeth at a time by using shorter strokes, so long as that feels alright to you. Next, you can brush the area of teeth below your brackets and wires and where the underside of your brackets and wires are. After that, you simply repeat the entire process on your bottom row of teeth. You can avoid white spots by making sure not to miss your lower gumline, and don’t forget to get the backsides of your teeth and the rest of your tooth surfaces, as well as your tongue. Your tongue can collect dangerous oral bacteria that causes bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease, and other bad things.

Don’t Forget To Floss

Flossing is essential for fighting off cavities, and the like. If you are wearing braces, you can use a floss threader to get your floss beneath your wires so you can pull your floss through without too much trouble. Then remove the threader and floss your tooth as you normally would. Remove the floss and repeat with the next tooth. It’s that easy. And you will thank yourself later for avoiding a mess that would have been painful and costly to clean up.

Orthodontic Maintenance Concerns

The hardware you have in your mouth has the power to improve your overall quality of life. But that does not mean that the treatment process won’t have its own challenges. For instance, many of the foods you love the most will have to be ignored. Too much sugar will be bad for your oral health and it can also cause permanent white spots after your braces are removed. Plus, sticky, hard, or crunchy snacks can damage your wires or brackets. Regardless of what you attempt to eat, it is always keep your cleaning tools around just in case you end up needing them. And, remember, you are free to call the Leiker Orthodontics team with any questions that arise along the way.
